Sorry about being so O.T. but I can't imagine anywhere else
with more Kenwood Chef knowledge.
I have a second-hand A901 which I bought on eBay, very
pleased with it, can't really believe things are still that
well built, cast aluminium case, gear-train like an Alfa
Romeo, 1/3 HP motor etc.
Now its gone wrong, it will only go a one speed - maximum,
good for meringue, less so for bread dough.
Unfortunately it has the old elecro-mechanical speed control
replacement boards anywhere. It used to be possible to
upgrade the control to the newer all electronic sort but
this seems to have been stopped, It now means changing
practically the whole works: motor, controller the lot - £100.
As this seems to have been done deliberately and Kenwood
technical support refuse to speak to anyone but a Kenwood
service agent Kenwood are rapidly rising on my list of firms
to be avoided in future. They are a branch of Thorn EMI, are
they all this nasty?
A crude multimeter test of the passive components shows OK,
this is the only testing I can do. I have replaced the triac
to no effect and now the triac(again) and the capacitor,
again no difference.
Can anybody help? I am fresh out of ideas. I can supply more
details if that would help.
